When I got to the frame shop, they had already welded the broken parts together. They told me that it is stronger now than before. The cost was $350. They did this without calling me for authorization. It would cost $950 to swap out the subframe. I don't know which way to go...tell me what you think...

The repair weld may be stronger, but the actual mounting tabs are unchanged. And you didn't say what they did or didn't do to the right side.
As far as the salvage sub frame, you haven't commented on whether or not it is an update frame. I myself would prefer to install the factory upgrade over a welded unit.
I would still visit the dealer and petition for warranty coverage, which with your catastrophic would mean an entirely new cradle and the labor. You would be liable for replacement frame and motor mounts.
Given your cash outlay for salvage parts, and the charge from the frame shop, you are in a bit of a pickle.
Dave.
