Have you spoken to MB at all? With those photos of your catastrophic failure, I would at least visit a dealer in an effort to get the recall extended. Living in the Bay Area you've got several dealers relatively close by. If you are aware of any one of those dealers having a better reputation for customer service, that may be the place to visit.
