The seller gave me a lengthy explanation that the old fuel was removed and a new fuel pump and filter assembly was installed in the car. He told me any crud in the tank was removed by chemical cleaning.
I am certain he was not fabricating this information. I believe he and his family prepped the car in some way prior to sale. However, in my extended and learned observation, the car exhibits bugs that I am reporting here.
I do not mean to reveal that I am blundering my way through this restoration. Instead, I keep saying I already had a similar car for years and I am restoring the new car exactly according to my experience and judgment.
So the stalling in my opinion may come from contaminated fuel residue, water or other by-product of 22 years of storage. I do not believe cylinder pressure is the issue because the motor is very smooth at idle. I do not believe its the electrical system because as I accelerate, there is no knocking and no loss of power.
