The ML had its gearbox replaced by a brand-new unit 12,000 miles ago for the princely sum of € 5,000 ($ 8,000) so it is clear to me that preventative maintenance always pays...

Is there anything else, apart from the above, that I whould be concerned with in terms of maintenance?

Sorry, I haven't found that information either. I personally dont see any harm in changing them all now.
