| I haven't used the S500's auto wipers for a while but if they're anything like the ones on my Phaeton then film and wax can cause the sensor to go funny.
If you're in the US get some Bon Ami pan cleaner (preferably without bleach) and give the sensor area a good scrub. Failing that, if you have an unused clay bar, use that with some lubricant on the sensor.
