| I'm with you on this one Derek, before the days of the body hoist, it always used to be a hydraulic jack in conjunction with Axle stands (a must for safety reasons) or a decent pair of ramps (I like the idea of your ramp extns Derek) depending on the job in hand.
Never ever work on a car with a jack alone ( the only exception to this is for a puncture at the roadside & the subsequent wheelchange but even then always keep out of the wheelarch and always use the supplied M/B wheel chock.)
PS We have had & used ramps for years in the UK usually made out of 1" angle iron (funny ours are usually blue like a lot of our workshop tools uused to be eg lathes ,drills etc.)
