Yeah, I was really surprised at the dirt and the small leaves and such that had made their way into the filter. Attached is a blow-up picture of one corner, showing all of the pine needles and such that were in the filter. A bit of the new filter is included for contrast.
I emailed the PO, sent him a photo. He was astonished, didn't know that there was such a thing as a cabin filter.

I'll probably inspect the cabin filters every six months, change annually unless they look really dirty earlier. With my wife the major driver, the car should get only about 10000 miles annually.
