Problem! 91 300CE left speakers only work intermittently

Hi everyone,
My 91 300CE has developed an interesting stereo problem. In February, I had a brand new Alpine CD deck installed (by a local high-end audio shop) which gave me about a month's worth of great sound before the driver's side dashboard speaker stopped working. Since that time this speaker has worked intermittently, usually only for a few minutes a time, and a period of several weeks usually passes between all speakers working. I just assumed that the connection between the deck and speaker was loose and was somehow detatching/reattaching itself by the movement of the car.

Well, I'm not sure how this happened (sheer coincidence I think), but last month I had a new fuel pump installed. When I got the car back from my mechanic, all of my speakers miraculously worked for the next 150 miles or so and then the situation returned to its previous condition. I've also noticed that other speakers on the left side of the car work intermittently as well, but usually the high range dash speaker is the only one that does not work.

Hoping for a solution to this puzzling problem, I took the car to Circuit City one day after work and the guy took looked at the problem speaker and the deck - all connections were tight, and the way the speaker sits in the dash it would be impossible for the connection to just come undone. They told me I needed a new speaker, which didn't seem logical to me as A) it still worked intermittently and B) the sound quality was crystal clear when it did work.

I'm still using the stock speakers and right side amp that came with the car (car originally had Becker stereo and I think Bose speakers). The left amp was broken and therefore was not used in the new stereo install.

Does anybody know of a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance
