Single Product Polishing– A Revolution Long Overdue
Anaheim, August 1 --“There’s got to be a better way.” Tom Horvath found himself repeating this mantra over and over, year after year as he worked on award winning finishes at his custom auto body shop in Anaheim, California.
For over 30 years, Horvath finished luxury and performance cars the old fashioned way. You know the drill: Cut, Polish, Glaze. First you scratch up the surface with compound; then you smooth out the surface with polish; then you glaze over the surface to cover up the scratches, swirls and burn through you made in the first two steps. That’s the way it’s been done for as long as he can remember. But Horvath is changing all that.
Horvath has introduced a product line that is a result of dozens of years of research and real-life application. Designed in his shop for use by auto body professionals, SYSTEM ONE® X3 Cutting Polish is a single product that permanently removes scratches and scuffs and polishes the painted surface to a flawless high gloss finish. Using nanotechnology and uniformly sized microscopic particles (not diminishing particles like the old method), X3 safely polishes paint to a perfect optical finish and high gloss shine. No need to fill in the scratches & swirls with glaze; there are none! Horvath calls his method, “Single Product Polishing” or “SPP” and he hopes to revolutionize the industry with the concept.
“Some of my earliest memories are of time spent in my dad’s body shop in Ohio,” notes Horvath. “In 1980, I opened my own custom auto body shop in Southern California. After only a year in business my shop had won a number of prestigious “Best Paint” awards. For almost 30 years we have provided award-winning service for owners of luxury and performance automobiles from all over the world. But hard as we tried, the standard Compound-Polish-Glaze method didn’t give us the flawless finish we were striving for.”
So what was an auto body man to do? Why of course, he went back to school!
Horvath enrolled in a chemical formulations class at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. One day, a conversation with an associate in the optical industry led Horvath to investigate the methods used for polishing telescope and eyeglass lenses to a perfect finish. He soon went back to his shop-based lab and began applying that technology to the chemistry of paint. After many formulations he came up with a superior solution… SYSTEM ONE was born.
Single Product Polishing eliminates many of the problems you find with traditional 3-step methods. States Horvath, “First, our polishing particles are microscopic and uniformly sized. We don’t use large particles to tear up the surface. Our cuts are so fine and precise the scratches seem to just melt away. No swirls. No burn through. Just a perfect finish.”
He continues: “Second, we don’t rely on thick pastes and glazes. The industry’s dirty little secret is that those glazes become white and hazy over time. Not to mention what happens when they get too cold or too hot… It can be a nightmare. SYSTEM ONE X3 Cutting Polish is one single product that works amazingly well.”
The third issue is cross contamination. “With SYSTEM ONE X3 Cutting Polish there’s no worry of cross contamination. You use one custom-designed double-sided buffing pad and your favorite polisher to apply one single product. It’s water soluble, and when you’re done… just rinse or spur. It’s that easy.”
SYSTEM ONE X3 Cutting Polish will easily remove any scratches from color sanding as well as from dry DA and RO sanders. It works flawlessly on all colors and paint finishes, including one, two and three stage paints, as well as older acrylic lacquers and acrylic enamels.
Horvath’s sincere wish is that SPP quickly becomes the industry standard. “Sometimes you have to shake things up to let people know that the old way isn’t necessarily the good way,” he notes.
