It actually would hurt their bottom line a little (time=money; you cannot do anything extra without costs involved), but the larger factor is the EPA, AQMD and the like. Car manufacturers do not have the freedom to put whatever they want on their cars.

It's much more about not polluting the environment and less about providing paint that's designed to wear off.

I believe that's what the ceramic clears are really all about...although they'll be touted as better for other reasons.

I don't think a car manufacturer would be allowed to put 14 coats of clearcoat on a car...not in the US anyway!
