| if anyone's still looking at this post: I figured out what the problem is on my car. The gas smell is coming from the EVAP filter (the one with the charcoal Filter) apparently its there to stop gas fumes from escaping into the atmosphere by collecting it and routing it back to the fuel system. Sometimes liquid gas can make it into the filter which is designed for fumes only and can back up in the filter causing the smell. On my car (91 420sel) you have to remove the driver side front wheel well to get at the filter. I haven't done it yet but I got the info from a service manual. |
