| small metal box eh? I'm guessing you are referring too the SLS proportioning valve.. They do leak w/ age esp. in northern areas.
Yes, a heavy load should make it leak faster unless the leak is on the low pressure return side..
All of that aside, bank on a replacement..it would really be a shame to have the leak get back one day, lose all your fluid and then be into a pump and a proportioning valve...pricey bits....
