I have never heard of the tank warping causing the leak. both fuel pumps are housed in the tank and is held in by a locknut and o-ring seal. usually the seal is where the leak comes from, not because the tank is messed up, but either the locknut was too tight and damaged the seal or the seal is faulty. I also have had a e55 come in having a bad fuel smell and it was leaking from the actual pump.
Now the only time I have seen the tank replaced is for evap leaks. it will leak from on top where some of the seals are, not the fuel pump seals, but some other seals.
