Hello boys,
Well I finally got installed after meaning to for a long time. Heres the cost breakdown of the mods...
Price:
X-pipe = $80
Mandrel bend pipes = $20 shipped
Installation = $60
Total price $160 installed for the mandre bent X-pipe kit.
Sound:
The car sounds FANTASTIC. Barely different at idle, slightly deeper sound. There is ZERO drone (X-pipes should have even less drone than just a straight pipe resonator pipe b/c of the of its resonance cancelling properties). However when you floor it you still get a healthy grunt. The car sounds great at full throttle but honestly it was slightly quieter than I was expecting. However, it sounds extremely high class and proper for the car its on. NO unwanted drone or etc.
Performance:
I haven't had a chance to really put it through the paces, but butt dyno definitely felt something the first time a stomped on it. It should take a few days for the ECU to adapt to the X-pipe (if infact there are any flow changes). Not going to say for sure until i get definitive dyno proof. But so far, I LOVE it

. For the price its a fantastic mod.
Stock Exhaust Components:
This is where I get to say "I told you so"

. Just as I had predicted from day one, there is infact NO crossover throughtout the ENTIRE exhaust system. The interior shots of the resonator are 100% proof of that. So the X-pipe SHOULD in theory do something (again gonna wait for dyno evidense). I am very shocked that AMG did not put any crossover of any kind throughout the entire E55 exhaust system but perhaps this may be a good opportunity to pick up a few ponies.
The Stock resonator weighs a whopped 26.130 lbs (weighed on my super accurate scientific digital scale). The X-pipe and 2.25 mandrel bends weight roughly 2lbs so the overall comes out at about 24lbs in weight savings in the middle of the car (between the two axles). This in addition to the 50lbs i saved from spare tire and tools and etc brings the overall weight savings up to 75lbs. Now if i chose to do the optima battery i could easily break the 100lb barrier which would really help out performance for every little sacrifice made.
Anyways without much further ado. The pics
