Maybe Daimler will eventually follow the other manufacturers, but most german car makers find a good design and stay with it for a number of years. Once they do re-design a particular model it's a pretty radical departure from its predecessor. Look at the new S-Class for example: they ran with the other basic design from 2000-2006, then changed it quite a bit for 2007.
By the way, I'm a little confused about the W140s and the change to W220. Is there some overlap of the 1999 model years, or are all '99s W140 and all '00s W220? |
The German automakers keep it at around 6-8 years because they design such great vehicles. Other companies tend to redesign at 4-6 years because the owners keep wanting more because it's not designed well enough.
I believe there is some overlap between the W140 and W220. Weird isn't it.
