i was an apprentice motor mechanic at the mercedes benz agent in zimbabwe. mercedes used to send people out a few times a year to teach us stuff about their cars, recent innovations and so on.

i was thouroughly impressed by the level of engineering that went into all benz cars, not just engineering a part but looking beyond. some serious thought went into them. i compared certain parts to other cars, certain components to other cars,, noticed how mercedes where designed holistically, instead of as parts bin specials, even though they would use the same parts on different chassis'.

my fave car is a BMW 2002. its "just right" with not too much power, braking, handling, etc but just enough of each. its very "balanced" that way and doesnt feel like it needs more anything. its light and nimble and very very responsive. thats how i like my cars to be.

but im getting to the stage where a bigger car is necessary, and the 124 fits the bill perfectly. its a bigger version of the 2002 without the handling. but it has other things in spades that even new BMWs dont have.

im a future engineer, future world traveller.
