Thermostat should keep the needle at the straight-up mark

Mine will go about half way to the next line when hauling uphill with a heavy load in high ambient temps. And drop about a needle width below the line when coasting downhill in cool weather with the heater on.

You're probably perfectly normal unless your temps consistently rise above the next line above mid way.
