I've seen you complain about the roads in Texas before. I guess you must live in an area with really bad roads as, overall the roads in the US are better than the UK, at least that was my experience. Many were so narrow it was scary to drive, especially on the wrong side. Also remember there are so many more miles of road here to maintain. Also offsetting some road problems is the lack of heavy traffic outside of major metro areas.

I was also amazed at the lack of resistance to the high taxes in the UK. Oh well, each to his own. 350's and 55's are fun to drive, no matter where you are.
I'm not concerned about the width.. at least it may make people here respect the lanes if there was a tree and a post on one side and an oncoming car on the other. It's just the aweful quality of the road surface. I'd agree with you, out side of town on the major roads there not too bad. But in the whole dfw area where I live it seems it's not a problem having a 3" high step across the surface. There's simply no argument in comparison to road surface quality they get away with here. in Europe it would be seen as just down right dangerous. I'm used to riding a sportsbike and the feedback through your wrist is enhanced 10 times even more than the 55, so I have enough miles in both places to make a fair comparison.. It's also not a generalisation. I've been to Seattle and California and I dream of those roads in the same respect to the smooth flowing lanes back in england.
