Had same intermittent problem on my old 02 slk 32 AMG, limiter cut in suddenly above 4,500 revs as a saftey measure and I lost power, had to book it in twice to Mercedes of Gatwick, they puzzled over it before telling me it was a faulty valve of some sort, went fine after that.
