Headlight angle

I got into a fender bender recently and I had to get my right headlight replaced.

I don't think my headlights were like this before but now my right headlight is aimed higher than my left headlight. Because of this, the left (stock) headlight hits the street about 10-15 feet ahead and the right (replaced) headlight hits the street about 15/20 ahead.

Is there an easy way for me to adjust my headlights myself? What do you think is the ideal distance at which the headlight illumination should touch the ground?

I would think that you would want the illumination to point out as far as possible up until the point that the illumination would not be at full strength. What have you found to be the usual max distance at which you can point the headlights?
