| RE: The Official Fuel Economy report thread Here's some recent "Christmas trip" fuel economy numbers on our 1979 240D M/T with 319600 odometer miles:
Fresh fuel fliters and anti-freeze.
Recent oil change and valve adjustment.
K&N air filter and studded tires (195/75 R14) at correct pressure (35psi.)
800lbs of passengers and gear in the car pulling a 800lb trailer;
75% over the highway with 2 snowy mountain passes at 60mph (4th gear),
25% stop & go, town and under 40mph hilly (3rd or lower.)
We used the 'top off tank' method with 333 miles on the trip meter, 11.846 gallons of fuel for 28.11mpg.
Normally when using biodiesel, the car runs quieter and has a touch more pep but the economy is the same; our biodiesel station doesn't have 'precision' pump numbers and at 70 cents a gallon, we don't really care. |
