| VIN decoding.
Be assured I have tried every recommended VIN decoder site that has been mentioned on this and other forums. All either want 17 digits or stop at 1980. That said here goes: My 1975 280 SL has a VIN of 107 042 10 000605. I know the 042 is for the 280SL, the 1 is for LHD, the 0 is manual tranny and the 000605 is the production number. There must have been more than 605 107's made by 1975. Does this mean my car is the 605th 280SL? the 605th 280SL with 5-spd? or what? I have already found out that the 5-spd (G76/27-5) is extremely rare and was wondering about the provenance of the whole car. Any info much appreciated. |
