| 1994 E420 Feeler Ok...If you want the full history, you can find the threads that I've started with regards to this car...
Basically, I was going to buy a 1994 E420 from my father-in-law. However, it is having some problems that we can't figure out and don't want to keep dumping money into it, so I told them I didn't want it and now they are trying to figure out what to do with it. They don't want to sell it in the paper because they don't want to sell it to someone that doesn't know what they are getting, etc.
So, obviously everyone here has to know about the harness issue. And, theirs was replaced. But, before it was replaced the harness caused the entire car to die. With the harness replacement, they've also had the Electronic Throttle Actuator(I think that was it) replaced as well as a computer board recently, etc. Like I said, the history is in these forums and I'll take the time to grab all the details if someone is interested or doesn't want to do that themselves. I can also answer any questions that you may have.
The car is gold with tan interior. AFAIK, all electronics in the car work. The leather is in decent to good shape. I can get pictures for those that are interested.
But, currently there are two known issues...
1) Something is wrong with the throttle, and the MB dealership thought it was the Throttle Actuator, even though I told them it was just replaced. At first I didn't believe the stealership so I spent some time having other things checked out at another shop, etc, but nothing else was ever found and ultimately my worry was that it was the Throttle Actuator again and therefore an electrical gremlin might be wreaking havoc and that's when I decided to not get it.
2) In the last day or two that I was driving it, I was driving on the Interstate, which was full of potholes, etc, and the traction control system kicked in. When I stopped and started the car full power resumed and the problem didn't show up again. Could be a bad sensor, could just be because of the road, dunno...It was just further fuel to the fire for me...
ANYWAY...If someone is interested in it, let me know. They are currently investigating selling it to a wholesaler or Carmax or trading it in, etc.
Ultimately, I'm glad I didn't buy it because I ended up with a 1994 BMW 525/5-speed and am happy because I realized how much I love to drive a manual tranny. But, had it not been for this electrical gremlin I would have been really happy with the car, it is indeed in good shape...So, maybe someone here will want it for parts and/or to work on it themselves.
In at least one of my posts you'll see a listing of all the repairs that were done to it. (Either here or on ShopForum, same userid) However, the last time I talked with my FIL he said he misplaced the folder with all the repair records that I had returned to him...but, like i said the details of the repairs are in the posts.
Ok, this is surely the longest post in the For Sale forum, so I'll stop here.
