| RE: Benz Hybrid Sorry,
I can't get exited over the hybrid technology. The ultimate maintanence cost have got to be ridiculous. Let's face it-we have enough electronic trouble with our cars today without having to worry about replacing armatures in electric motors, brushes contacts and relays. Not to mention batteries. In my oem days I dealt with some engineers working on GM's electric truck program. There were literally two thousand pounds of batteries trying to power the truck. All of that clean technology is fine and dandy-at least until you have an accident. Who cleans up the environmental mess when you have lead, acid or high tech nikel-metal hydride all over the road? Will you roll a Hazmat truck for every "clean Vehicle" accident? Hybrid technology is great in theory. What happens when in heavy rains-like in the South where I live-and the wife drives through bumper deep water? Bye-Bye hybrid motors and electronics! Diesel technology is the future! You can now get the performance of a gas engine, sometimes twice the economy and have the ability to run on synthetic fuels like cooking oil or biodiesel. Seems like the best alternative for the present and near future! |
