| RE: "Check oil level next fueling" 7200 miles and still on full mark. I didn't do anything special during break in. I punched it a few times on freeway ramps, kept it under 80 mph, and just generally drove it normally with a few spirited romps. My typical daily drive was a 20 mile highway drive with about 4 miles of light stop-and-go at either end. Really strange that MB is faulting break in as the cause for oil consumption.
I plan on an oil change at about 8-9000. I will be letting the car sit most of the winter and driving it only on clear days when the roads are dry and salt free.
Something about pure synthetic oil makes the break in trickier. It is not recommended for breaking in aircraft engines. The stuff is too slick and does not allow rings to seat properly. You're better off not changing it until consumption stabilizes. Sometimes the slight grit of dirty oil actually improves break in. I guess if it does not work out, that's why we have a warrantee.
Good luck and I hope it gets better.
