| RE: New owner...questions... I wouldn't go with that instrument cluster from eBay. First of all, it has the same missing pixel problem your current one has. That's a common reason for them to be replaced, which is why these defective ones are so common on eBay.
Secondly, instrument clusters have to be pre-programmed with the correct mileage. The dealer told me that they have to be ordered from the factory with the mileage already programmed as they are unable to program it themselves. I don't know how true that is, but I haven't heard any success stories with used clusters either.
So unfortunately your options are:
1. Pay the dealer $800-$1000 to fix it.
2. Try to fix it yourself. Not many have reported success with this but you might be able to fix the LCD contacts or swap parts from a used cluster.
3. Live with it.
