| RE: New Online Tech Links Thread i want to post this info up here, so it never goes away. this is an excellent reference.....i wish i had had it when i did my job!
On the plug;
Brown = Ground -
Black = Switched Ignition +
Red = Always on +
Grey = Dash Lights(allows lights on new radio to dim when headlamps are on)
There is a thick black wire right next to that plug. The Black part is a cover and inside it's a Blue wire, That's for the power antenna.
The speaker wires are;
Red+ Black- Left Speaker (goes to fader on console)
Green+Black-Right Speaker (goes to fader on console)
If you want to by-pass the fader, you can disconnect (spelled cut)the wires from the switch and snake it back up to the radio. The wood on the console comes out by removing the ash tray mount then pull it rearward to release it. You can't pull the wood up very far unless you disconnect the wiring.
These speaker wires are;
Red= + Lt Fr
Red/Black= + Lt Rear
Green= + Rt Fr
Green/Black = + Rt Rear
Then there are only Two Speaker Grounds @ the radio both Black. You need to root out the wires going from the fader to the speakers. You will find that the front and rear side speaker ground wires are soldered together. Which make it a mutual ground, contrary to most newer head unit wire diagrams. Once I got ALL the speaker wire out of the console it was simple with plenty of wire to work with.
I used the fader location for my Vac adjuster for the euro headlights
