To be honest with you, W201 cars are some of the simplest to install the sound system and rewire. It's rather stright forward.
Speaker wires can easily be ran under the carpet on either side... Power wire for the amp can be ran under the carpet on the pass. side, stright from the battery, no holes to drill in the fire wall. RCA cables - Driver's side...
Not sure how do they come up with those prices, when I worked at Circuit City (roadshop, years ago), installation charges were as follows:
*Pair of speakers $50 (so you have 3 sets - dash, doors and rear deck) $150
*Deck/head unit $40
*Amp $50
*Speaker wire + an amp kit $50-$60
So $350-$400... I guess the prices went up on installation?

Lessee...,
-Amp: $200-$350. This price was with me buying a 4 channel amp from them. Of course, Ebay may come into play here.
-$150 Installation labor. (ouch)
-$90 Amp parts(?) (comments here??)
-$80 speaker install ($40.00 per pair installion on speakers. I have 4 Infinity speakers for the rear deck.)
So there is your rough, $650ish high end estimate. Of course, I'll widdle that down before I make a move. I'm CERTAIN that price carries alot of "$NAME$" with it, but I accepted that when i went there. This is the place the local Ferrari owner takes their car, but mainly, they have a Mercedes specialist who really knows his stuff. He rebuilt a w140 amp that day.
