The comparison is that the end of slavery that came as a result of the civil war was not the reason for war. The reason was to preserve the Union. There are benefits for war aside from the initial reasons. The benefits in this case will be a free and democratic state in the middle of the Middle-East. With moderate states close by, Jordan, Turkey, and Kuwait. A successful Iraq could completely change the Middle-East and bring it into the 1st world, this is a very long term project.
