The latch system is available on many seats (brands).
Make sure you get that, 02+ MLs (maybe earlier models too, I don't know) are ready for it, it's easy and really secure!

Just noticed your ML was a 1999.
Check the back seats for anchors at the level of the fold between butt and back cushions.
Someone here's bound to know and could lift the doubt about latch in 99 MLs...
Regardless, you can use normal restraint and tethers if latch does not work. All latch equiped seats are pretty much allowing you to do either
