Well, the only plausible reason I can think of for the baking soda advice is, bird dookie contains VERY high amounts of uric acid, much more so than other animals. The baking soda is a pretty strong base so he may have thought the soda would neutralize the acid in the bird dookie.

Other than that, thats a new one on me LOL. I just usually use soap and water!
