RE: E320 Cabriolet slow to shift out of low gear

It is intended to do that but it is actually to allow faster heating of the exhaust catalytic convertor rather than waiting for the transmission to warm up. The sooner the catalytic convertor starts working the sooner the emissions are controlled.
