| learn from this I was just reading about the K&N and the possible damage that can be caused to the MAF. When I was struggling with an engine problem (ended up being a bad MAF - $400 part) I discovered that there is a second air filter inside the main air filter housing. It is a little foam piece of junk right in from of the valve for the SC. My filter was in very poor shape and virtually crumbled in my hands when I took it off to clean it. I'll never know, but I speculate that a piece of the filter probably got sucked in and screwed up the MAF...I took the MAF out and cleaned it, and the car ran much better but not perfectly. It would make sense that a little bit of the foam melted on the hot wire and screwed the thing up.
It just might be worth checking for the rest of you. I ended up just leaving the foam filter off altogether.
